Cooking and handling food is only just starting to appeal to me again -- no one warned me that pregnancy could make me stop enjoying food! -- and I want to get things back onto an even keel before this new little one arrives in May.

Read MoreI have my furnace turned off today and all the windows thrown wide open to capture this first gasp of Spring. Mellow tunes seemed to fit the mood, so I loaded up a few Travis albums to play on random shuffle. I've Nova Scotia style baked beans, made with some of the Jacob's Cattle beans I packmuled back from the East Coast last month, simmering in the oven. There's something about the smell of fresh baking in a clean kitchen on a Spring-like day that is so very soul satisfying.
