2020 April 19

Sunday

9:00pm:

Two days in one for this entry. I was at work both days this weekend, so not much to say other than puzzles are still incredibly popular with online shoppers and our loyal customers are deeply appreciative we are still open.

Both days were busy, which felt great.

Our Health Unit is no longer updating the numbers on the weekend, so I have nothing to share there.

The news out of Nova Scotia breaks my heart.

I saw the initial tweet from the RCMP around 11:30 Saturday night, warning people about what was happening, but the full scope of it wasn’t apparent until I was able to sit down and catch up with the news tonight. I can’t wrap my head around something so unfathomable happening in my home province. I can’t bear to think about how the COVID-19 crisis means these families can’t gather with their community to be supported in their grief.

Such senseless loss perpetrated by another angry white man with a gun.

Nova Scotia is small.

It’s unsettling that it hits so close to home this time. Eventually it will become apparent that I “know somebody who knows somebody..” I’ve already drawn 3 degrees of separation from the killer — I know somebody married to somebody who went to school with him. I wonder how much the “shelter in place” rules inspired him — did he do this now because he knew everyone would be in their homes?

It will be hard to sleep tonight.
