2020 April 06

Monday

9:00pm:

65 cumulative cases in the area covered by my public health unit today.

Ottawa has extended municipal closures and restrictions until June 30th. I think it is only a matter of time before Ontario announces that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the year.

I cut up chickens, and repacked ground meat and stewing beef today — I feel better with our month’s worth of meat in the freezer. I worry about people who can’t do that, and had a related conversation with my teens today about why there is a “rush” on Mr. Noodles and boxed mac & cheese. I hope they realize just how privileged they are right now. We are relatively secure right now, but many others are not.

Tomorrow I bake a birthday cake for my youngest who will be celebrating her 1st birthday in high “Quaranfashion” here with us on Wednesday — no big party or family friends invited, but we’ve only done that with a couple of the kids anyway so it isn’t a huge change for us.

I’m also planning to dig at least one of my huge hostas to divide and move elsewhere in the yard. Depending on how much work it is, I might dig more than one. The ground is soft and easy to dig right now, and that might not be the case in a month.

To recap my region’s numbers:

March 26: 1 case
March 28: 2 cases
March 29: 15 cases
March 30: 20 cases
March 31: 29 cases (2 deaths)
April 1: 35 cases
April 2: 40 cases
April 3: 52 cases
April 4: 55 cases
April 5: 61 cases
April 6: 65 cases
