Do Something Little, Help Something Big!*

I'm a believer in the power of enacting small changes to make a big difference, so Energizer Canada's new initiative "Do Something Little, Help Something Big" really resonates with me. Energizer Canada is pledging $100,000 to Evergreen, and encouraging Canadians to pledge their own positive acts. We can all do our part to make the world a kinder, happier, healthier, and greener place to live, but that doesn't have to mean huge sacrifices on our part. Little things add up to big change, and starting small is much better than not starting at all. As part of Energizer Canada's campaign, I'm pledging to start (or to continue) doing five positive acts:

1. Cloth diaper my 16mos old, line-drying the diapers whenever possible. He has never worn disposables and this has kept a lot of garbage out of the landfill.

2. Use rechargeable batteries in my reading light. I read a lot and chew through batteries like crazy, so this is good for my pocketbook as well as the environment!

3. Pick up garbage in my local park when I'm passing through on errands. I go through this park on an almost daily basis, so taking a few moments to pick up the bits of paper and trash on the ground is no hardship for me and everyone benefits from a clean place to relax and play!

4. Buy as much produce as possible from local farmers at my neighborhood farmers market. This ensures that my food dollars are going straight to the producers to support lower impact farming practices.

5. Divert as much of our unwanted stuff as possible to the local thrift shop instead of into our trash. If stuff is in good, useable condition someone else should have the opportunity to use it before it takes up space in the landfill. We're in the middle of a household purge, so this is a great one for us!

These are just five things, and none of them are terribly challenging, but together they add up to make a difference! What differences can you make? Visit http://nowthatspositivenergy.ca/ to pledge your acts of kindness! For each pledge made, Energizer Canada will donate $1 to Evergreen, a not-for-profit organization with the mission of making Canadian cities a greener, healthier place to live.
