Review: PC Holiday Entertaining!

I'm a self-confessed PC addict! I love the PC brand and this has greatly contributed to my condiment-mania. Recently I received a bag of PC products to review -- all intended to make holiday entertaining less stressful and much more delicious. PC Fruit Cake with Single Malt Whiskey $9.99

I'm not a fan of fruit cake -- the closest I get is the war cake I make from an old family recipe each year. As far as fruit cakes go, this one is nicely packaged and attractive to look at when opened. There is a slight taste of whiskey but it isn't overpowering, and the cake itself has a moist, crumbly texture and good flavour. It hasn't changed my mind about fruit cake, but people who enjoy them will probably enjoy this as well.

PC The Decadent Hot Chocolate Mix $5.99

I made this for myself and the boys. They gave it a rousing thumbs up and so do I. This hot chocolate is the closest "store bought" hot chocolate mix I've found to homemade hot chocolate. The ingredient list is fairly short (always a good sign) and the mix has actual pieces of chocolate in it. It had a nice deep chocolately flavour and smoothness in the mouth. My only complaint is that the tin is pretty small. Based on their measurements, there are only about 6 - 7 servings in a tin.

PC Dark Chocolate Candy Cane Bark $2.99

Who doesn't love the taste of mint mingled with dark chocolate? This is a classic pleaser!

PC Dark Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salts $5.99

I love salt. I easily have 10 different kinds of salt in my house at this precise moment. Thus, I was incredibly curious about this product -- my thought process went more or less like: "Chocolate? Check. Caramel? Check? Salted? OMGWTFBBQ! *dies*" The chocolate itself is very yummy -- the buttery caramel filling is completely addictive and I always love dark chocolate. I was a little less convinced by the salt, surprisingly. I didn't like the first one I tried, but after a couple they started to grow on me (quite literally on my hips and ass, I think -- 'tis the season!). I think they would have done better to use a Himalayan or Andean finishing salt on top, as they have a much cleaner "salty" flavour than the rather cloying flavour of sea salt. All in all, though, a nice product. The coarse salt definately discourages eating a half dozen in a sitting, as the flavour becomes quite strong after a couple, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

There are still a few more things in the bag to review, which I will finish over the holidays, and then I'll be talking about the new Oral-B Triumph. I'm pretty excited about this one!
