Recipe: Chocolate Eggnog Steamer / Chocolate Syrup

Happy Boxing Day! Today is the day we have our big holiday meal, and I'm starting my day with a chocolate eggnog steamer, served in my new abi lyon wicke mug -- a gift from my husband.

Chocolate Eggnog Steamer

3 tbsp chocolate syrup
1/3 cup steamed eggnog
1/3 cup espresso

Pour chocolate syrup into bottom of mug. Add steamed eggnog, then add espresso. Top with frothed eggnog and a touch of cinnamon.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

1 1/2 cups water
2 cups sugar
1 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine water, sugar, cocoa and salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking frequently. Lower heat and simmer until volume has reduced by 1/3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Store in fridge. Makes approximately 2.5 cups of thick syrup.
