When we were offered the opportunity to review the Philips Sonicare For Kids, I jumped at it. I have an Oral-B Triumph (review here) and love it and, while this brush operates with a different technology, it shares many of the same features. It is rechargeable and has an audible brush indicator to let the child know when to move on to another quadrant of the mouth. It also has two different power settings and brush heads -- one for older kids and one for younger -- which is perfect for us, as we've one in each age range. The brush gradually builds up to the recommended brushing time over the period of 14 uses, helping the child adjust to using the brush.
Boy#1 didn't like this brush at all, preferring to use a manual toothbrush or my Oral-B Triumph. He didn't like the sensation of the vibrations on his gums. Boy#2, however, loves it and it's easy for him to use on his own with little supervision. The brush alert plays a little tune each time he needs to move to a new quadrant of his mouth and he thinks this makes it fun. :)
The brush has interchangeable face plates, so the appearance can be customized to the child's color preferences. The very trim stand has pegs for storing the brush heads and caps to cover them -- this is great! The Triumph has this feature as well, but the base is much larger and more cumbersome than that of the Sonicare, so I don't use it. We did find that the brush head cover for the smaller brush didn't fit well. This is a very minor problem, though.
The variable power setting is really useful -- particularly if the brush is shared among several children of differing age. The is a fair amount of difference in the sensation between the settings.
Overall, we really liked this brush. Anything that makes toothbrushing less of a struggle is great and this brush achieves that! I would absolutely recommend this product without hesitation. :)
Boy #2 and I give it 4 thumbs up!
